Never look back unless you are planning to go that way!

It started with a win and it ended that way against the team we just can’t get enough of beating.
In a year that tested the resolve of many a Celts fan, when first of all we threw away the league by a single point, to the new season start of dropping 15 points behind in careless fashion. Fast forward today from the anniversary of the night when that nice Mr Fawkes did his best to blooter the Lords & Ladies of Westminster into the night sky, we have ourselves now taken command of the SPL & made up 17 points in the process! After registering on Twitter last January I started posting on May 22nd Cup Final day! Since, it’s been a laugh & been serious all rolled into one! The faith is there & it’s ours to keep!
I’d like to thank all of the 3,993 who have followed from the day Neil lifted his first trophy as Celts manager! Along the way I’d like to point out a few people I’ve followed who keep it all going one way or another on Twitter.
@Pmacgiollabhain has kept up the relentless chase on the things Rangers FC wished to hide away. Like a hunter he hunted them! (note those first three letters in preceding words were quite handy there!)
@Cartujakds is simply the King of funny graphics who brings a smile in Ugly Sister bashing at its best!
@CelticNewsNow are kept up to date with all that is happening when Celtic are mentioned via the media outlets, and a bit more thrown in!
@Rangerstaxcase  have intelligently pursued Rangers affairs with excellent analysis of the state they are in. Like the dug with the bone they don’t give up!
@STVRaman is without doubt the best in delivering sports news with untainted opinion on breaking news! He also delves elsewhere on other topics with humour always around!
On the individual front @Joey7Barton is unrivalled in mentalness!
@unwittinglymine you have a mix of a man whose Celtic heart burst out in sometimes spontaneous late night mad fashion just loving the hoops! A hoot most of the time
@bournesouprecipe you have these considered tweets appearing with Celtic wit which brings a smile!
@paullarkin74 the Green & White writer from New York City via Edinburgh, A beating Celtic mind at all times!

Finally to all the gang down at the Neil Lennon CSC in Greenock. Myself & Frank McAvennie had a fantastico evening down there in November. It will be difficult to beat!
My Twitter will continue to give it straight with no mixer, to what is going on around Celtic from information gained. Not all will agree & that's fine. Better getting it straight than nothing at all!
To all followers, have a safe & happy start to this year with prosperity, luck & good health into 2012. We follow a team who have residency in our hearts. We all beat Celtic & never beat alone. God Bless & be lucky!

Is commitment, passion & organisation too much to ask for?

Bad performances from good teams do happen in football. Games which you can easily recognise as being one off events! Celtic’s bad performances though, are now more of the norm, rather than being of the one-off variety. St Johnstone, Rangers, Hearts, Kilmarnock were big lights going off in our heads, with Europe getting in the way of the main event, that big prize, the SPLtitle. Win that and we grow from there.

But when a collective squad rotated through some baffling team selections & injuries continue to throw up some very disorganized, disjointed, inept & heartless performances, then it is clear be are going backwards from last season. If we won every single game from now until the end of the season, then our points total would not be far off what we collected last season. That won’t happen of course!

Despite the above point dropping exercises, with renewed fight we lived in hope that somehow we could claw it back and make a fight of it. Unfortunately reality tells you it's not there. Too many disappointments which are now of a recurring theme! If we wish to be entirely realistic, it’s not there even from a standing start. We are now embarrassingly trailing 12 points behind a Rangers outfit held together by next to nothing, then, we have Motherwell who we cannot get beyond going into November!

Collectively, whatever team takes the pitch, the real failing is that when it matters, this squad have neither the character, leadership, or crucially important, a sense of what winning the game for Celtic is all about. Some are very much misfits, some have big attitudes way beyond their capabilities & others don't deserve to be at a Club like Celtic in the first place.

From the major (missing) shareholder - his lack of contact, leadership and interest is appalling. For years now he’s not interested in facing up to the fans at a once-a-year AGM. To a bonus driven Chief Executive, to our management team & to our players, you have let the support down massively. If every one of the above can look themselves in the mirror and think that what they are doing at the Club is taking Celtic in the right direction, then they are simply kidding themselves on.

I have never wanted a manager in my life to succeed at Celtic more than Neil Lennon. His life has been massively disrupted simply because he is the Celtic manager. I have no clue as to who in football would cope or put up with what he has experienced. Celtic though, are our bigger picture here and I don’t know where Neil goes from here with the current Celtic squad!

Then we have Celtic PLC, who seem so obsessed with balance sheets & bonuses, deferred or otherwise. Where is the investment, where is their plan, and when are the people who run this culture, (because that’s what we are) going to do something about matching the unbelievable commitment the support have shown? Well, right now, they are not, and they are failing us! Forget Rangers, the running of our Club & team is in a shambolic state, nobody is buying excuses anymore. As a support, together we are stronger & we deserve better respect. HH

Lennon has exposed the Brown situation & we don't need the player's attitude!

After 4 months of negotiation with Scott Brown’s contract, Neil Lennon has sounds somewhat frustrated being diplomatic when stating. “Until they (Scott & his agent) adapt a different approach it’s stalemate.” Are we missing something here? Because being made clear that Celtic are expected to pick up the agents fee? So Scott doesn’t pay his agent for getting him a new deal? But Celtic have to sign another cheque, and until we do then he isn’t for signing the new deal! Are we some kind of soft touch here? It’s ludicrous to say the least. Neil added... “I haven’t had the chance to speak to Scott because he’s been in London”. Okay, I suppose when you’re being paid £21,000 per week (over 5 years works out at £5.040m, with transfer fee at £4.25m = Celtic outlay now £9.29m)  but are out injured then your Club Captain can go to London for whatever, pick up your wages while the fight goes on up here to claw back League points, and dictate to Celtic that before you will sign a new contract, then you’ll need to square up my agent first! Really? What part of get-a-life does Scott and his agent not understand? Celtic are sounding more like a charity organisation by the day instead of demanding & expecting more commitment & desire from their player & captain. What an example! What is going on in that building? Move on Celtic, this affair is leaving a very bad taste in many supporters’ mouths with regards to a Captain who hasn’t convinced a great deal over 4 years,  who bought some time & favour with his gesture to Diouf last year. Celtic first at all times. Selfish demands from non-convincing invalids are not on!

That’s the last AGM I’ll be attending!

Going along to our recent AGM I asked myself, why, as a Celtic shareholder I hadn’t attended one for about 7 years? The answer came back to me in a flash, because no matter what the attendees say or do, nothing ever changes and after it you realise you are taking a day of your work for your point to be swatted away as if we were some kind of pesky troublesome flies.
I attended AGM’s in the early 90’s when the old board were in charge, on the proxy vote of people who were then labelled as ‘Rebels’. The average Celtic fan prior to 1994 had no opportunity to buy shares, unless, and I kid you not, the Kelly or the White’s gave you some for your Christmas, yes that did happen!  A ‘Rebel’ was simply a Celtic fan who was prepared to stand up and seriously question the old board’s financial scavenging & mismanagement of Celtic.
The old board ran Celtic into a financial mess with no means of paying off the debt, with astonishingly none of the directors having any personal liability to that debt. Inturn leaving Celtic FC wide open to anyone, friend or foe, coming in and doing what they wished, good or bad!  People either love or hate Fergus McCann but he was the guy that saved Celtic Football Club of that there is no doubt. There was lots of talk, but he was the doer! The cheque needed signed, and when others coughed and looked around the room, he stepped forward with his pen! Thousands of fans also played their part, as did some Celtic businessmen, but he produced the dosh!
On one occasion at the AGM’s of the early 90’s, Celtic’s head honcho of security, one George Douglas asked me to leave the AGM before it had even started either that or the Police would be called. The board viewed me as a ‘Rebel’ upstart and clearly didn’t want me to attend. I left the room, the meeting was held up, and I scurried around in the inner sanctum of Celtic Park looking for the ‘Rebel’ who originally gave me permission to use his proxy. I needed his clarification as to my legal attendance. As I thought, Celtic’s Chief of Security had no clue to the right & wrongs of my attendance & I was re-admitted to the AGM.
In those days the AGM’s were bun fight, lots of energy, lots of passion, lots of emotion. Celtic emotion! Today they are sanitised affairs with carefully asked questions produced to the audience on a non-live video link affair. Questions thought up from within the Club on what they think fans concerns are and put to John Reid in the cosiest friendly environment possible.
Votes are cast on every motion the AGM has laid out and they flew through with over 99% on a yes pass. At the most recent one myself and @pmacgiollabhain were sat in the front row when the re-election of Peter Lawwell came up. It came to a vote in the room and Phil & I raised our hands against his re-election. I looked backwards towards the 1,000 or so attending and in my immediate vicinity didn’t see a single hand raised on the no vote. We were at the very front, but not having sight of the entire room, I’ve been told there were other hands raised nearer the back. Point being that vote was carried easily on a 99% yes category.
In voting against Peter it was nothing personal at all. I don’t even know the man on that level. It was simply for the reasons that I didn’t think his day to day running of the Club was correct. In the manner in which transfers were being conducted, the level of player being brought to Celtic, my information in the undermining of the football department in the way certain players were being brought into Celtic, along with the fact Mr Lawwell received huge bonuses when the trophy room didn’t have a single domestic trophy in it. The Scottish Cup is there yes, but if it wasn’t then huge bonuses were still being paid out.
Dermot Desmond couldn’t be bothered to turn up. And yes the Club’s major shareholder has also been absent in recent years as well. Was it too much of an irrelevant scene for him to attend? A guy unknown to the Celtic support at large was sent in his absence. Now we’re talking irrelevant. If he uttered a syllable I didn’t hear it. John Reid though did gaffe at least twice when he described Dermot as the ‘owner’ (obviously that’s ingrained in his mind) only to very quickly say “Er, er, I mean major shareholder” Unfortunately after JR corrected himself he called Dermot the ‘owner’ again!
Cringingly and not having to sanctify himself, because like or dislike Reid he is a Celtic fan. He said “I use to walk to Celtic Park from Carntyne” Cringy bit coming up here, adding “If Sam McGuinness is in the room today then he is my witness” That was very unnecessary and delivered in embarrassing fashion!
Question time arrived with around 15 minutes of time being allowed for questions. I made it to the mike in time before they said, that’s enough people, and put my question to Peter Lawwell sat directly in front of the front microphone. I got 2 questions in and my 2nd was that I had knowledge of Dermot Desmond standing an overdraft guarantee of around £20m in 2000, which allowed Celtic to borrow at the bank, (when we had just lost the league the season previous by 21 points to Rangers), which enabled the appointment of Martin O’Neill, the signing of Chris Sutton, John Hartson, Neil Lennon & Alan Thompson & others. Continuing, I said that Dermot was paid back via the share issue of 2005, I asked why with Dermot being the major shareholder with a personal fortune of £1.4b, why we couldn’t perhaps arrange a ‘soft’ loan with him in order to help the manager buy in a few better quality players.
The meaning of a ‘soft’ loan is when the interest on the amount borrowed is very low and the terms of repayment is of a considerable time. I stated that if that information was incorrect then say now in front of all in the room. John Reid said something along the lines that he would speak to Peter about that and get back on my question. Still waiting 9 days later & really do not expect any kind of answer at all. A very neat body swerve from JR!
There are 29,000 individual shareholders in Celtic PLC but less than 2000 from the 29,000 cast their vote! The PLC board will be very happy that attendances at AGM’s only amount to around 1,000 from the 29,000 attending, because it makes this one day of the year less excruciating for them!
Apathy in attendance is what they want. My view from now on is they can have it. Present day AGM’s are so insulting stage managed I’m not for being force-fed their no answer agenda any longer. The rather strange thing though is if apathy ruled in total, then the entire board suited up & looking very crisply shirted would infact be sitting there staring at no one! That way we would be insulting them back by not bothering to attend to listen to them push everything through they want on their command at plus 99%. Not going then? Fine, I’ll just be taking a lead from the majority shareholder!

This 3-3 draw was a sticking plaster over a seeping wound!

While the 3-3 draw was better than nothing, I feel it only temporary covers a much bigger problem which is obviously within the dressing room between Neil & his players. There is no togetherness, there is no desire, there are plenty of attitudes (the wrong ones) & despite that fightback today, we’d be kidding ourselves if we thought that team had the desired fight required.
Forgetting any board influences or lack of it for the minute, several Celtic teams put out this season are frankly a disgrace. St Johnstone, Rangers, Hearts & now Kilmarnock are not flukes, they are trends! Although you hear bits and pieces of what is going on behind the scenes, nobody for sure knows what is going on in that dressing room/ training ground. Clearly there is a problem!
After every bad result this season we have the usual huffing & puffing about how the next game will be different, the players know what they have to address, players wanting to play elesewhere in the Champions League (aye but are they up to it?)others not signing much improved contracts put in front of them, plus Neil in his own words, saying he'll have to consider his position if this continues. As for the player chat it's becoming tiresome, infact it is tiresome!
When Stokes missed the sitter early on today, a shivering thought ran through my head, that if this goes against us today, that miss could have been the nail that finishes Neil off. Infact the very same player pulled it out the fire for his gaffer!
Despite this late draw, today was a shambolic embarrassment and I doubt whatever way the parting would have been dressed up, Neil wouldn’t have survived a 3-0 defeat to a cobbled bunch of free transfer players.
Attitudes on the park are now showing up. Kayal has looked like Celtic’s Tevez, now he's signed a new improved contract after 4 months of stalling! I feel a clause has been inserted in that one allowing him to leave if a certain fee is offered as he eyes his future elewhere
Ki said recently he might fancy a move soon, fine, as the battle if here in a Celtic shirt, so what’s keeping you? Ki can be invisible not only in big games, but also on many occasions in games like today. When the chips are down where is his presence? Bangura looks like an increasingly dodgy signing. Wanyama might make it given time & Forster is a bag of nerves and not a Celtic keeper, Majstorovic is eh, 6 feet plus of uncertainty! El Kaddouri is a poor stop gap & there are many others! Joe Ledley has to consider standing up more and stop vanishing. Scott Brown is free to sign for anyone in 10 weeks and has been talking about a new contract for 3 months now. So clearly a problem there! For me he is a hazard and how many people have you heard say, “If only we had Scott fit......” Not many. With or without him we are rudderless on the pitch. Brown’s absence makes no difference either way!
Neil looks like a man carrying a huge load & perhaps all the horrors he put up with last season are now taking their toll on him. Throw in all the politics and the undermining of him behind the scenes, then you have to wonder if it has all caught up with him and is all too much now! A Club Legend he will always be no matter how this all turns out, hopefully in Neil's favour!
In an overall sense his players do not seem to be playing for him and therein lays a serious problem which is continually fermenting! Unity is strength, and this season from more or less the same side as last year, we don’t have that. The other half of that saying is, divide & conquer! And that’s what seems to be going on. 11 points dropped in 10 games. Work out the maths if this carries on for much longer!

Sunday 2 October 2011

Some reasons why I think Neil could possibly come to a mutual agreement with Celtic!

Today’s defeat at Tynecastle wasn’t just another defeat because of poor form or because we had 10 men. Our problems are much deeper. Is it the manager? Is it Peter Lawwell? Or is it the board’s fault? Let’s go back a little to have a closer look. The main reason Martin O’Neill left Celtic was due to his wife’s serious illness. He was also told about the massive cut in spending and believe me or choose not to, if you have more info as to what went on, but Martin O’Neill will never return to Celtic while Peter Lawwell is in charge.  Peter Lawwell survived!
Gordon Strachan came in and took the job on a much reduced budget and did remarkably well winning three titles in a row, the last sixteen in Europe twice. Didn’t get backed in his last transfer window, lost the league and left by ‘mutual consent’ in his last year. Took his pay-off and a ‘no talk about what when on’ clause and never said a bad word about the Club since! Peter Lawwell survived!
Tony Mowbray came in after relegating West Brom, and also after Owen Coyle knocked the job back specifically when he was told the budget he was on. We also paid a £2.4m buy-out clause to get him and half of that amount to get rid of him! Who appointed him? Peter Lawwell survived!
In came Neil after a trial period, and after much Lawwell/Desmond deliberation Lenny got the job. The rest of the board do what they’re told after PL & DD make up their mind. Fact! I know Lawwell sat Graham Speirs down for his opinion on the possible appointment & he also phoned John Hartson on the same and did so with other football professionals. Word leaked on what Speirs had said to Lawwell & an angry exchange followed between Speirs and Lennon.  Giving Neil the job was a huge risk, BUT, if this sticking plaster approach to the problem did come off then Neil had saved much ineptness caused previously by his masters from above! Neil signed some players last season & John Park, the overseas chief scout, recommended some others! This season the only player for sure that Neil definitely wanted was Kelvin Wilson (yes I know, but let’s not lose track for the minute) He wanted a better goalkeeper and didn’t get him! He wanted a better right back and didn’t get him! He wanted another centre forward and didn’t get him. He wanted another centre half and didn’t get him. He got and signed what he could with the money made available to him. Some are not Celtic class and Lennon knows this.

Lennon has made some crucial mistakes and he knows it. He will never get the team he wants or the fans deserve under Peter Lawwell, and in my opinion, if Neil feels he is being made the fall guy because of their lack of ambition, then at some point he will come to an arrangement most likely dressed up as being of 'mutual consent' when his tipping point finally tips. He looks haunted, and doesn't seem to have the verve he had last season. Is this because he has become disillusioned with lack of ambition at board level? The very same reason Steve McLaren parted company recently with Nottingham Forest? I also believe he thinks this financially fiscal situation will be never ending for such a big Club. Importantly, he doesn't deserve to be slaughtered by fans and he will NOT take being booed. He is a Club Legend and must remain so! Question is, whether it’s Neil doing the job or anyone else under such conditions - who will take the job and do the job WE require with the budget on offer? And before anyone says it, the Celtic teams who took the pitch against St Johnstone, Rangers & Hearts should have been good enough to have beaten them. The sticking plaster is not working.  Neil, it's your call to do what is best for yourself here if you feel you aren't being backed. If so and Peter Lawwell survives a fourth manager what will he come up with now as a fourth remedy? The mess is the same but the balance sheet looks pretty! Hail Hail!

The fans complained to the Press Complaints Commission but Celtic PLC didn't. Why not?

BELOW IS A BLANKET REPLY FROM THE PRESS COMPLAINTS COMMISSION RECEIVED TODAY AT  14.14

Thank you for contacting the PCC in regard to the back-page article in the Daily Record of 17 September which made reference to Neil Lennon. We have received a large number of complaints about the article. The Daily Record published an apology on Monday in regard to the article, which read as follows: We’re sorry As part of the build up to yesterday’s Old Firm match the Daily Record used a headline in Saturday’s paper (September 17, 2011) which contained the word “hated”. This has caused dismay and anger and it was wrong. We apologise for any offence this may have caused Neil Lennon, his family and also supporters. The Daily Record has a history of condemning intolerance in all its forms. Our headline was a misjudgement and it was not intended to stoke up feelings ahead of yesterday’s match. You may also be aware that Celtic Football Club has issued a statement following the publication of the apology: Club statement on Daily Record apology to Neil LennonBy: Newsroom Staff on 19 Sep, 2011 13:13 CELTIC Football Club can today confirm that the Daily Record newspaper has printed a retraction and apology on its back page concerning a weekend article relating to Celtic manager Neil Lennon.

The article was headlined 'WHO'S MORE HATED AT IBROX? (Is it Lennon or the taxman?)'.

Celtic has made its feelings very clear on this issue. We felt the language used was inflammatory and highly irresponsible. The treatment of Neil Lennon has been well-documented and in this context the article in question was insensitive and unnecessary.

We understood absolutely the feelings of Neil Lennon and our supporters on this issue. It is only right that the newspaper in question has admitted it was wrong.

We would hope that this kind of ill-judged reporting does not occur again.

We can confirm that the newspaper will receive access to media conferences. However, Celtic will closely monitor the reporting of all media outlets and we sincerely hope that such a situation does not arise again.
In the circumstances we will contact Celtic Football Club and determine whether it wishes, on behalf of Neil Lennon and the Club, to make a complaint to the PCC about the article. We will proceed with the complaint with the Club directly, which I am sure you will understand is the most appropriate way forward. We will seek to update you on the progress of our enquiries in due course. Yours sincerely

Is Lennon waiting on Craig Gordon!

UPDATE ON YESTERDAY'S BLOG!
The team that has to be built at Celtic in any season is one to beat Rangers! Yes it’s that simple. That’s the starting point before any other priority. That team needs character, leadership, organisation & bottle, because they don’t take prisoners! Where were those qualities at Ibrox? As for leadership on the park, Celtic have been missing this for some time and it doesn’t look like it’s gonna change soon! Personally I am not a fan of Scott Brown as player or captain, but I realise a lot of fans are! For me the Europa League is getting in the way of our top priority, as it did yesterday, as Celtic’s tank was well empty before Mulgrew’s lobotomy removal second yellow red card offence. Yesterday’s four against could have been six or seven. To ignore that is to stick our heads in the stand!
Yesterday was the first test against them, and apart from a 15 minute spell, we were second best to just about everything. Character comes to the fore when your opponents run at you like they did and surely for any footballer that is enough to motivate you? In return you take it on and sort it out, well that’s if you have it in you! Clearly many of this team don’t have that vital ingredient. That’s not a snap knee-jerk judgement of an opinion from someone who watches the team every week, no it’s a considered opinion! In 4 games to date against Sion, St Johnstone & Atletico Madrid the evidence in front of you bears all the fruit you want.
One of our best players Beram Kayal, who has been offered a new improved deal in the same fashion as Izaguirre has yet to sign it. We have a captain in Scott Brown who has been negotiating a new contract for three months now and it’s unsigned. Whether or not he deserves a new 4 or 5 year deal is another matter completely. Fact is, it is not good for a team to have such uncertainty with a captain’s contract in his final season. The point is, something is not right regarding both of them and it doesn’t help form unity in the squad. Yesterday unity is what we required but it was so badly lacking!
Therefore who has it and who doesn’t in this type of game? When you cannot do it against Rangers then you have to stop kidding yourself on and be brutally honest. It’s okay players taking the plaudits & winning against other SPL teams, but that’s no real test in the bigger picture is it? The Celtic fans were massively let down at Ibrox and you do wonder if some players realise that? I don’t think some of them do. Perhaps a few are too far removed from the importance of this fixture in the lives of the Celtic fan and it’s the cheque that matters most to them!
Naismith, Lafferty, McGregor, Whittaker, Wylde & Davis all knew what was required. On our side Mulgrew & Mark Wilson & maybe Anthony Stokes were the only Celtic fans in our side. They know the hurt, how many of our imports, know it, or want to know it? On the goalkeeping front we are now in our second year with a loan goalkeeper. That is ludicrous for a Club of our size. Forster looked completely spooked yesterday and is Fraser any better than Zaluska? Or is the reason that Neil signed Forster up on a one year loan deal due to the fact that the keeper he really wants is Craig Gordon who is out of contract in the summer?
The look on McCoist’s contorted face in today’s press was another reminder to the importance of winning this game. We need that back and we need it quick!
Who stood up yesterday & who didn’t? (not a difficult question you may ask?)
Fraser Foster: is an unconvincing Newcastle reserve keeper. A big lad who doesn’t inspire any confidence in his defence or watching fans. He is a cheap loan option and not a top class keeper!
El Kaddouri: is a stop gap player until Izaguirre comes back with lots of experience but was out his depth at Ibrox.
Mark Wilson: is in his last year at Celtic and has dropped below his ‘Steady Eddie’ play of last year and now looks slower!
Glenn Loovens: is as unconvincing as he was when he first stepped into a Celtic strip. Has no spirit of encouragement about him at all. How long has this to go on for?
Kelvin Wilson: was a complete shambles from start to finish. No command or spirit about him at all. His clearance for their first goal would be laughed at on a public park.
Charlie Mulgrew: is a big honest tradesman being very silly with his challenges and should have been hooked earlier. One more poor tackle and he was off, and he was.
Beram Kayal: can play alright but was today struggling. Is his mind elsewhere?
Ki: fluttered & flattered about with no real hold on the game. Ghosted about and was never in  it physically!
Scott Brown came into the game for 15 minutes and disappeared again before his injury flared up. Not my type of Celtic player at all & one who flirts with the proud responsibility of being the Celtic captain.
Georgios Samaras surely now has no future at Celtic. Neil’s obsession of continually playing him at Ibrox is so out of date. In a playing sense, he’s so last year! Neil, he will hang you if you hang onto him.
Gary Hooper did his best but when you’re playing with a drunk giraffe as a striking partner then everything you do will be on your own.
In summary: There was no cohesion, no shouting or conversation on the park between our players and the defence in particular looked spooked when they caught sight of each other. Lenny has to seriously look at his team selections and the fascination for thinking certain guys will do it for him- when in fact they best they will offer him is a noose for his managerial future. Of course Peter Lawwell’s bonus will still be paid for keeping the transfer budget down win or lose the league, with the fans turning up & paying up only to be gutted once again! Then you have a watching Celtic board who simply do not deserve us! The PLC are deceiving the support with their obsession for the balance sheet. Yes, we know about lack of TV cash but the other lot are in the same boat and are beating us.
FOOTNOTE: As for the Daily Record’s apology it was pathetic. Had there not been such an uproar they wouldn’t have offered one. It was an empty gesture probably written by the tea boy. They will eventually get back in to Celtic Park, but Celtic should make them wait and demand assurances. Anything less would be the Club shafting their own fans who were concerned enough to email the Press Complaints Commission!

A few tips to speed up the Press Complaints Commission Form

By filling in this form you will make a huge difference to how the Daily Record in particular will report in the future as well as possible action being taken against them for this incitement heading!

I have filled in the form, it only takes minutes. Feel free if you wish to use my words of complaint below to help speed things up, or use your own words at the section where it asks.......

Please explain how you believe the Code of Practice has been breached
The heading is clearly inciting trouble ahead of the Celtic V Rangers game on 18/09/11. This game is volatile enough without this irresponsible headline. Neil Lennon has been assaulted on the pitch at Tynecastle last May, and there have been several assassination attempts on his life, with two men presently in custody and charged with such. He has also had bullets & other suspect devices sent to him & he has had to move himself, his 5 year old son & partner from their home. Why print this hate fuelled headline in the current climate which could easily lead to violence on the streets of Glasgow & elsewhere? Had this been posted on Facebook the Police would surely be investigating! The Scottish FA chief executive Stewart Regan has today also commented on the crassness of this headline ahead of this fixture. Your thoughts please!
THE CODE SECTION YOU WILL BE COMPLAINING UNDER IN MY OPINION IS..Accuracy 1)

The roots of last night’s failure have been allowed to grow for too long!

A question many of us have pondered is, what has happened to this team who achieved our best points total (92) of last season, which was our best haul of points over the five previous seasons? How can disintegration be so quick? We ended last year’s League campaign leaving a wonderful atmosphere at Celtic Park on the very day Rangers lifted the title! How often will that happen? For sure it won’t happen this year if Celtic do not lift the title!
On the above day the support were 100% behind all that was going on at Celtic and once again backed the Club with another great season book response. We more or less agreed amongst each other that three quality players would be sufficient to solidify what was needed to bolster what Neil had built on and we looked forward to the new season with renewed spirit & vigour.
Therefore with the above building blocks in place what happened next? Well nothing to be precise! There are six days to the end of the transfer window and we’ve signed one player for £850,000 who has promise but is not one of the three quality players we expected or were hinted at by the chief executive. Fact is, his current level showed he couldn’t be trusted to contribute anything last night.
If it were the case that the season ticket monies didn’t come in until the board showed the same commitment as the fans have already shown, then bet your life quality signings would have been made by now! Of course the board’s lack of ambition and foresight is not the only reason for our current state but it is a major factor!
Many fans are feeling short-changed, deceived even, and are in deep mistrust of the people who run Celtic. Other will read this and say they are happy with the board and the manic fiscal way it is run! £500,000 is our current debt. The balance sheet is pretty, but without the Scottish Cup sitting in the trophy cabinet it would be bare empty, apart from our historical collection! Not winning trophies & titles as the Club suits fawn over their nice balance sheet is completely useless to supporters. There has to be a middle ground towards balance sheet performance and trophies in the cabinet. This is the responsibility of the chief executive & the board. They have simply failed to find that balance.
Therefore in what direction do we aim our anger & frustration at? Peter Lawwell’s job pertaining to Neil Lennon is to negotiate the contracts of the players Neil & his scouting team have identified. People in the game tell me Peter Lawwell wants to trim deals down for new targets so much that they scunner & drive possible new signings elsewhere. Yes he has to drive the best deal for the Club but not to the extent you drive them away! Therefore the board & the chief executive have failed us by their lack of foresight & inept dithering. If some think they haven’t, then ask what you have been given in return for your season ticket commitment in bringing better players to Celtic!
Player wise we are hanging onto players who are continuing to let us down. Last night Daniel Majstorovic was not an accident waiting to happen, he is an accident happening continuously! He is not alone of course, some others are continuingly getting a game & are continuingly letting us down. As for the players out on loan none at all have a future at Celtic whatsoever. The reason they are on loan and not being sold is because nobody wants to buy them.
Neil is a young manager and will make mistakes and has made mistakes. We knew this when he was appointed, he also knows this and is aware that pressures of the job at Celtic is deliver the title this year. We must back him to give him the opportunity to achieve this target. If he fails & importantly he feels he HAS been backed by the board in securing his targets then that is a different matter which can only be judged at the end of this season!
The very fact we could still qualify for the group stages via disqualification of Sion, if they are found guilty of fielding ineligible players, is embarrassing, but obviously we’ll take it!
Some players look like their heads are elsewhere, Neil even stated this after the St Johnstone game. Their heads have possibly been turned by all the talk of a big move to the Premiership. If so then we're better rid of them for decent money. An unhappy player with his mind not on the job in the jersey is a waste of time!
A football agent told me that the Sion players are on between £4,000-£6,000 per week. Some of ours are on £8,000, others on £15,000, others on £20,000 & a few between £20,000 - £27,000 per week. We should have had enough in us to beat Sion over three hours of football but the glaring fact is we didn’t. Therefore many players must take a good hard look at themselves. Neil has to take decisive action against them or he will without doubt be hanged by them in the long run! There is a league to be won and our current anger & frustration at last night’s failing bubbles within us. There are 6 days left to improve this squad. The board have that chance to prove they are not a bunch of dithering suits. Get a move on because you won’t get away with letting all of the people down all of the time!

Lets hold our breath till next week!

Lots of frustration amongst many fans after last night’s disappointing performance against an average Swiss side. Understandable as it is at the result, let's hold it together until the return leg when more accurate judgement can be delivered - as the tie is far from lost. Post mortem's either way can be applied after the 2nd leg then we'll know better where we realistically stand and whether the oversized current squad can or cannot deliver in Europe at least!

One main reason Celtic do not take the correct action against the Press & Media!

One of the main reasons Celtic have not taken action against the misrepresentation of facts like that of the Rangers supporting Keith Jackson in today’s Daily Record, is due in part to the weak PR department Celtic have. When I worked in the building there was not a single Celtic fan working in the PR department from the three people there at the time.
In this critically vital area of words coming from Celtic to their support, in this case with regards to what the Club are prepared to accept from, for example the contortion of Neil Lennon’s after match chat yesterday, you most definitely require a Celtic heart & mind to notice, be aware & react to headlines like those in the atrocious Daily Record Sport today.
Embarrassingly, the person who reacted today was our manager and not Celtic’s PR.
Yes, the words were put out via the Celtic website, but I have no doubt Neil initiated that statement, and NOT the Club’s PR. Once again Lennon has had to be detracted from team matters to sort out something this very weak & un-responsive PR at Celtic should have been pin-pricked into taking action themselves!
The main or one of the main PR people at Celtic today is Iain Jamison who never hid the fact he was a Hearts supporter! This person is wholly or part responsible by doing nothing - requiring Lennon having to react to these headlines and story contortion when Jamieson should be dealing with it.
In recent years Celtic PLC have been more akin to employing corporate nodding donkeys with plasticised CV’s who DO NOT STICK UP FOR CELTIC WHEN WE ARE IN THE RIGHT, when it’s their job to be pro-active and react to headlines like today! There are more like him with no beating Celtic heart in positions of influence with egos bigger than any love they proclaim to have for the Club.
At the moment I am verifying a story regarding another Celtic media employee, one who cannot stop talking about himself, with word  that a serious number of Celtic fans may have been duped and/or mislead by his actions which could have serious consequences for them! More on that when the exact facts on the matter are learned!
Football Clubs generally DO NOT take sanctions by way of banning the press & media when they are criticised, whether that criticism is justified or not, from official Club press conferences! BUT they must take action against the gross misrepresentation of what was actually said by Lennon after yesterday’s game, compared to what appeared in the Record today. Stop pussy footing about and get stuck into those who portray Neil Lennon & Celtic in this warped and mangled manner!

A Journalist without a clue!

A Journalist without a clue!
Kaye Adams, the journalist & broadcaster, said in the Sun today : "I don’t have the stomach to be caught up in another season of endless radio discussions about sectarianism & violence. No pressure but I’m pinning my hopes on Rangers boss Ally McCoist. His reputation has always been that of a peacemaker, a sparkly personality, bringing people together with his humour & wit. He has the potential to be a great Ambassador for Scottish football”
Personally, I find that sycophantic approach to a huge problem totally gut wrenching! This poor woman requires to put her uncontrollable ego back in her drawer, then educate herself on the havoc that sectarianism & what the related violence is doing in Scottish society! Where was she when her boy McCoist was creating mega trouble in the Scottish Cup tie at Celtic Park last season? Yes he was the source behind the creation of ‘Mr Salmond’s save all in Scotland’ summit.
McCoist, the potential to be a great Ambassador for Scottish football! You couldn’t make it up. The reality is - she did. Part of the solution! No. She is part of the problem!

Four favourite Celtic occasions!

Been asked by a Twitter follower what my favourite Celtic moments were. There are many but I will go for four games/events I was actually at.
(1) Celtic Park for our 3-1 victory in April 1967 over Dukla Prague in the first leg of European Cup semi-final! For a wee Bhoy this was an exhilarating experience. Walking down London Road holding my late dad’s hand & continually looking back at the four column floodlights, thinking, this is very, very special. A total Celtic brain imprint!
(2) Charlie Nicholas scoring a last minute goal against Ajax in Amsterdam in 1982 putting us through in Europe by winning 2-1 after we drew the first leg at Celtic Park 2-2 with the great Cryuff playing!
(3) Stopping any possible ‘10’ happening in final game against St Johnstone in May 1988. Henrik’s early goal settled the nerves in our 2-0 victory sealing the Championship!
(4) Outside Celtic Park in the driving rain on the night of March 4th 1994, when the old board collapsed after the successful ‘Celts for Change’ fans campaign to rid the Club of them. Brian Dempsey came out to address the cheering fans and was told by Fergus McCann to say “The game (pause), the game is over, the rebels have won”. Sheer fan power paved the way for the money men to come in!
There are many more, but the above are 4 wonderful occasions for me!

Works permit regulations explained by Grant Russell

Work permit regulations explained

This fine article below was written by STV'S Grant Russell!

The regulations in place for a footballer applying for a work permit to move to a UK club remain frequently misunderstood and misinterpreted.
Various outlets, officials and supporters have quoted varied rules from the past, many of which remain relevant but have moved on from the assumed requirements for a footballer to be given the necessary immigration status.
Previously, a club would apply direct to the Home Office for a work permit, with the well-known requirement being that a player had to have played 75 per cent of his nation’s competitive games within the last two years to qualify.

Now, the relevant governing body must endorse any work permit application by a club before it is submitted to the Home Office, cutting down on the number of requests made directly to Government which are unlikely to succeed first time.

Who needs a work permit?

Any player who is over 16 years old and is not from the European Economic Area, which covers 32 countries aside from the UK requires a work permit to play for a British club. A Commonwealth citizen with at least one grandparent who was born in the UK does not need to apply through the points based system. Such players will still require a work permit but go through a different process.

How to get a work permit

When a club signs a player who requires a work permit, they agree to sponsor the player to be in the UK, meaning they will provide the funds for his time in the country. A certificate of sponsorship is then produced by the club, which is then submitted to the relevant FA for them to consider an endorsement.

The Scottish FA’s rules on work permit endorsements follow the same guidelines as previously outlined by the Home Office. For the SFA to give their approval, the player in question must have played 75 per cent of his nation’s competitive games – excluding friendlies – in the two years prior to the date of application.

Furthermore, the country the player is coming from must be in the top 70 of Fifa’s rankings. Failure to meet these requirements results in an automatic rejection of any application for an SFA endorsement for a work permit certificate of sponsorship.

As of June 28, 2011, it costs an applicant £550 to apply by post for a work permit in the UK, or £850 in person to process the application on the same day. There is a reduction in cost for nationals from Croatia, Turkey or FYR Macedonia, with the same applications costing £495 and £765 respectively.

The appeals process

If an application is rejected, a club can then appeal to the governing body. An appeals panel will ultimately weigh up whether or not the player is, in their view, an internationally established player and whether another professional within the UK could not perform a similar role.

That appeals panel typically sits within three to five working days of an appeal submission and is made up of football experts, made up typically of former professionals. Officials from the league, the FA and the player’s union also sit on the panel to argue the case for the player being granted an endorsement.

In Scotland, experts who have sat on the decision panel previously include former player-turned-pundit Pat Nevin, one-time Motherwell boss Willie McLean – brother of Tommy and Jim – and former Hibernian and Liverpool midfielder Peter Cormack.

Status of immigration

The length of time a player can remain in the UK as a player depends on his grasp of the English language. There are two immigration statuses available to a player applying for a work permit: tier two and tier five.

Under tier two, a player can remain in the UK for an initial three years, with the possibility for an extension for a further two years. To qualify, the player must accrue 70 immigration points under the Home Office’s system. 50 are given for getting an FA endorsement, with 10 more given for being able to prove sufficient funding to remain in the country.

The final 10 are awarded on the basis of the player’s English. If the applicant comes from a predominantly English-speaking country, or has a degree from a course which was taught in English, the 10 points are subsequently awarded. Additionally, a player can sit an approved English language test upon their arrival in the UK to obtain tier two status.

Failing that, a player can apply for tier five status. Again, a certificate of sponsorship and proof of sponsorship is required but a visa is only valid for one year. However, the player can then sit an English language test within that year and apply to switch to tier two status.

The current Home Office financial criteria for a player to come to the UK outlines he must be continuously funded during his time in the country and has had at least £800 in his bank account for 90 consecutive days prior to the point of moving.

The process simplified
A football association will typically endorse a certificate of sponsorship for a player if he has played 75 per cent of competitive games for a FIFA ranked top 70 nation over the past two years. Under no circumstances will an FA endorse a certificate of sponsorship on the first attempt if the criteria is not met.
A club may then appeal if the first application is rejected. An appeals panel will then convene to establish whether, in their view, the player's transfer would be of benefit to the game in the relevant country. If they are in favour, the football association will then endorse the certificate, which then contributes the biggest part to the Home Office's criteria

Why making the sign of the cross will never be an offence!

Why making the sign of the cross will never be an offence!
Alternative View June 22nd 2011
Matt McGlone
When new bills are in the process of being structured for the purpose of being passed through (in this case) the Scottish Parliament then it’s probably best that no comments are offered by Government Ministers when the bill has still to be finalised!
Much reaction appeared yesterday after Community Safety Minister Roseanna Cunningham made part comment on the new proposed proposed legislation for tackling sectarianism related to football bill. In my opinion she helped create emotive headlines by her comments for a bill which (A) has yet to be decided & (B) has yet to be made law!
Take the matter of the signing the cross.
It will NOT EVER be made an offence to do it in the correct religious manner for which it is intended. Whether you do it in Mass, praying at any time outside your home, on the street if for example you saw a horrible accident, before or after your dinner, for any sportsperson entering the field of play, or after for example, when a player scores a goal and he does it for his own personal reasons and NOT to DELIBERATELY Incite trouble, for example to away supporters etc. It’s common sense and by using the signing of the cross properly there will be no problem and it will never be an offence to do so!
The Roman Catholic Bishop of Motherwell, Joseph Devine said: "Any sign, song, picture or whatever can be easily abused.
"So the Minister is correct in saying that, in certain circumstances, such gestures can be provocative.
"In themselves, the sign of the cross and the national anthem are noble and honourable expressions, but they can be manipulated for evil intent.
"Those who intentionally and malevolently exploit and corrupt such eminent symbols should be held to account."
Roseanna Cunningham said”
"In the circumstances of Celtic and Rangers fans meeting each other on a crowded street, it could be construed as offensive.
Ask yourself why, if you are a practicing Roman Catholic, would you want to make the ‘sign of the cross’ under the above circumstances and think that is the proper way it should be used? It is a religious sign and not a sign of incitement!
As for singing the National Anthem, personally it means nothing to me and I have no reason for its words to ever pass through my lips, but for right or wrong it is the National Anthem of the UK and if others wish to sing it why should it bother us? Again if it is used in provocative fashion it can be viewed as incitement, and again that is quite correct!
TOP QC Paul McBride last night praised the new anti-sectarianism bill and said:
"Common sense will prevail." McBride, who has represented Celtic and manager Neil Lennon, said: "I think it is a very good bill which, despite what some say, is very well drafted.
"It only creates two offences. The threatening communications part is very simple. And the football part clearly defines what you can and can't do.
"Most sensible folk will support it. People know what is offensive and what isn't."
Mr McBride claimed detractors of the bill would try to point to "extreme examples".
Adding "When we had bills to combat racism, some people said it would mean we could never use the word 'black' in public. That was nonsense.
"So making religious signs or singing the national anthem won't come into it. Common sense will prevail."
Commonsense, proper & correct use of religious signs or any country’s national anthem will not get anybody arrested. It would be a bit rich to say you cannot fly the Union flag in this country but we can fly the Irish Tricolour, would it not?
Finally, does anyone really think that the current SNP Government wishes to alienate 850,000 Roman Catholics in Scotland at the polling stations. Nope!
